Newhart, which premiered on October 25, 1982, tells the story of Dick Loudon, a how-to-book writer from New York who moves into and renovates a Vermont inn built in 1774. He and his wife Joanna, (Mary Frann) run the inn with some help from George Utley, (Tom Poston), the quirky handyman, and Stephanie, (Julia Duffy) a spoiled rich girl who takes a job as the maid. Always on hand are also Kirk, (Stephen Kampman) the owner of the neighboring cafe, and a compulsive liar, and Larry, Darryl, and Darryl, (William Sanderson, Tony Papenfuss, John Voldsted) three brothers with only one, Larry, who ever speaks.
