Leonard Nimoy

Though Leonard Nimoy began acting in community theaters at age eight, he didn't make his Hollywood debut until he was 20. His first film role was a bit part in Queen for a Day, which was followed up by a bit part in the perennial Rhubarb. He studied at UCLA and received a masters degree in education from Boston University. He also served for two years in the Army Reserves. After leaving the army Nimoy was still receiving small, often uncredited parts. He appeared as an Earth-friendly Martian in Zombies of the Stratosphere. This role foreshadowed the one that made him famous: Mr. Spock, the half-human/half-Vulcan science officer of Star Trek. His performance won him three Emmy nominations.

After the original Star Trek ended, Nimoy continued to be part of the Sci-Fi franchise; he served as writer and director, of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. In addition to television, Nimoy has also appeared extensively on stage. His credits include: “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Oliver," “Camelot” and “Equus.” He has hosted the well-known TV series In Search of... and Ancient Mysteries. In 2002, he announced his retirement from movies. He came out of retirement in 2008 to play Spock in the new big-screen Star Trek adaptation from J.J. Abrams (Lost, Fringe). That same year he also released a photography book entitled The Full Body Project.
