Sarah Chalke was born August 27, 1976 in Canada. She made her acting debut in the made-for-TV movie City Boy in 1992. A year later, just after completing her first film, she auditioned to replace Lecy Goranson in the role of Becky on Roseanne. While cast to play the older sister of Sara Gilbert (Darlene), she's actually younger than her co-star. During her four-year run on the show -- while Goranson was studying at Vassar -- Chalke was studying on-set and graduated from high school in 1995. Chalke, best-known as the put-upon eldest daughter Becky, may have gotten her big break on Roseanne, but she truly broke out on her own in the NBC hit series Scrubs, which was the recipient of a TV Land Future Classic Award. In 2008-09, she appeared in several episodes of How I Met Your Mother as well as starring in the Lifetime miniseries Maneater.
Elliot is the only female doctor central to the Scrubs story line. She is a close friend to J.D. and they have been romantically involved...several times. Just like J.D. and Turk, Elliot began her career at the hospital as an intern. In the fourth season she serves as co-chief resident with J.D.
Elliot is close with Nurse Carla Espinosa, whom she confides in and consults for advice. She can be a bit of a chatterbox and sometimes is overly sensitive. This makes her an easy mark for the sometimes belligerent Dr. Cox. She also has a tendency to tell inappropriate stories about her childhood that make no sense.
