Although
he first decided to become an actor in 1943 at age 13, it wouldn't
be until 1972 that he would achieve fame for his craft. Whitman
Mayo was originally hired for one episode of Sanford and
Son as Grady, but was so well-liked that he was given a
regular role. Grady was even given his own spinoff, Grady,
in 1975. When that didn't work out, he returned to Sanford
and Son and carried on the role in the short-lived follow-up
series, The Sanford Arms. Mayo has acted steadily since,
and can be seen in a variety of television and film productions.
