Candice Bergen

Candice Bergen is the daughter of the late ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and his wife Frances. The multitalented Bergen has worked as a model, writer, photographer, and actress. Her photography has appeared in “Life,” “Esquire” and “Playboy,” and she has written articles for “Esquire” and “Playboy,” in addition to penning her memoirs and a play entitled “The Freezer.” Bergen made her screen debut in Sidney Lumet’s "The Group." Highlights from her film career include appearing opposite Steve McQueen in Robert Wise's "The Sand Pebbles;" starring in Mike Nichols' "Carnal Knowledge;" earning an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Alan Pakula's "Starting Over;" playing a Jackie Collins-esque best-selling author in George Cukor's final film, "Rich and Famous;" appearing as real-life photojournalist Margaret Bourke-White in Richard Attenborough’s Oscar-winning epic "Gandhi;" re-teaming with her "Starting Over" co-star Burt Reynolds in his adaptation of Elmore Leonard's "Stick;" and playing Sydney Biddle Barrows in the 1987 biopic “Mayflower Madam.” A truly gifted comedic actress, Bergen was the first woman to host "Saturday Night Live," and she earned five Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe for her work in “Murphy Brown.” She married French auteur Louis Malle in 1980, and the two had a daughter. Malle died in 1995 from lymphoma, and Bergen is now married to businessman and philanthropist Marshall Rose. Most recently, Bergen hosted the program "Exhale," an interview show on Oprah Winfrey's Oxygen cable network, and guest-starred on HBO’s “Sex and the City.” In January of 2005 she joined the cast of ABC’s “Boston Legal” and appears in Muprhy Brown creator Diane English’s film adaptation of the classic The Women.
