Episodes
25-Divided We Stand
A psychiatrist is assigned to analyze the 4077th, so Henry commands everyone to be on best behavior. Everyone complies. For a while, anyway. Very little while.
Factoid: M*A*S*H was filmed in the exact location used for Planet of the Apes in 1968 and How Green Was My Valley in 1941.
26- 5 O'clock Charlie
An inept North Korean pilot repeatedly attempts to bomb an ammo dump near the camp. His misses are more entertaining than threatening to everybody in the compound. Everybody except Frank and Hot Lips, of course.
Factoid: Actor Stuart Margolin was cast twice, as different characters, to play a suitor to Major Houlihan. Naturally, she disses him. (Twice.)
27-Radar's Report
Klinger is targeted by Hot Lips and Frank to be examined by a psychiatrist and, finally, Hawkeye flirts with a nurse (played by Joan Van Ark).
28-For the Good of the Outfit
Hawkeye and Trapper are disturbed by word that the Army mistakenly bombed the South Korean village of Tai Dong. Without admitting to the bombing, the Army agrees to rebuild the village - and to throw in a soft-serve ice cream maker!
Factoid: Although Japanese actor Mako played four different characters during the series, he was out-done by Korean actor Soon-Tek Oh, who portrayed five.
29- Dr. Pierce and Mr. Hyde
Hawkeye goes sleepless for three days straight due to surgery duty. In his delirious haze, he decides to investigate who started the war, and understandably decides that he must send the 4077th's latrine to N. Korea.
Factoid: The reason the wounded were transported by helicopter in Korea is that the roads were considered too treacherous to navigate in ambulances.
30-Kim
Trapper shows his paternal instinct when he meets an orphaned Korean boy named Kim. Trapper intends to adopt the little boy, assuming he survives the minefield.
Factoid: All that remains of the 4077th set is an old rusted Jeep, an ambulance from the show, and the helicopter pad.
31-L.I.P. (Local Indigenous Personnel)
Corporal Walker wants to take his Korean girlfriend and their child home with him. When he tries to marry the girl, the Army sends Lt. Willis to investigate. Hawkeye is offended by a nurse that he's dating who does not approve of the marriage between "one of them" and "one of us".
Factoid: Arlene Golonka, Ron Howard, and George all starred in the Andy Griffith Show (as Millie Swanson, Opie Taylor, and Goober Pyle, respectively) and all also played roles on M*A*S*H.
32-The Trial of Henry Blake
In a fiendish double play, Houlihan and Burns officially dispute Col. Blake's fitness to command. They lock up Hawkeye and Trapper to prevent them from helping him.
33- Dear Dad ... Three
Hawkeye recounts to his father the tale of a soldier hit by a grenade; the story of the time he and Trapper tinted the skin of a racist patient; and the poignant details of a home movie Henry received from home.
34-The Sniper
A sharp shooter has the 4077th in his sights - including Radar and Henry in the shower. The misguided soldier thinks he's firing on McArthur's headquarters. When a chopper ends the siege by firing on the lone sniper, Hawkeye walks into the bush and tends to his wounds.
35- Carry On, Hawkeye
Asian flu sweeps through the camp, leaving the unlikely team of Hawkeye and Margaret to do virtually everything. Then Margaret gets sick. Just about the time everyone else begins to recover, Hawkeye catches the bug.
36- The Incubator
Demonstrating the deviation in their desires for devices that conduct heat, Henry gets a barbecue, and Hawkeye requests an incubator. A colonel tries to sell him one, but things don't pan out.
Factoid: The teddy bear Radar so loveably cuddled throughout the series is exhibited at the Smithsonian.
37-Deal Me Out
Sidney Freedman arrives at camp and jumps into the ongoing poker game at The Swamp. Radar hits one of the locals with a jeep. As it turns out, the "victim" is known for jumping in front of vehicles and seeking a payoff. Meanwhile, someone sets out to kill Frank.
Factoid: This episode marks the first of seven appearances by actor Jerry Fujikawa in various roles.
38- Hot Lips and Empty Arms
Margaret takes a good, hard look at her life and decides to leave Frank and the 4077. She then proceeds to get smashed at her going-away party. But nothing is more sobering than the wounded of war, that start to arrive.
Factoid: This was the first of five episodes written or co-written by Linda Bloodworth. She became famous as an author and as a creator of television series such as Designing Women and Evening Shade.
39-Officers Only
After Hawkeye and Trapper successfully operate on a general's son, they are rewarded with a three-day binge in Tokyo and an officers club for the camp. Meanwhile, Klinger pretends to be pregnant.
Factoid: Every character created by Richard Hooker for his M*A*S*H novel and the series was a composite of real people Hooker met, knew, worked with, or heard about in the war.
40-Henry in Love
After a week in Tokyo, Henry returns to camp smitten by a 20-year old named Nancy Sue Parker. Young Miss Nancy makes a pass at Hawkeye while Henry is in surgery. After a phone call with his wife, Henry realizes he loves her and decides that what happens in Tokyo stays in Tokyo.
Factoid: To make sure the series continued to dramatize the human cost of war, Alan Alda had it written into his contract that at least one scene in every episode would take place in the operating room.
41- For Want of a Boot
Hawkeye wants a new pair of boots, which he can only get from Zale, unraveling a complex matrix of favors and ultimately leaves Hawkeye bootless.
Factoid: This episode is the last appearance as a nurse by Sheila Lauritsen and the first of 15 appearances by Patricia Stevens.
42-Operation Noselift
A private desperately wants plastic surgery for his rather prominent nose. Hawkeye convinces a plastic surgeon to perform the procedure by promising him a nurse nicknamed Barracuda. Hawkeye maneuvers to facilitate the operation for the AWOL private without Frank or Margaret finding out.
43-The Chosen People
A Korean family sets up its new home ... right in the middle of the compound. Meanwhile, a Korean woman with a newborn accuses Radar of being her "baby daddy."
44-As You Were
Hawkeye and Trapper pack Frank into a crate while he sleeps. They receive gorilla suits through the mail. The camp falls under friendly fire and Radar frantically pleads for someone to stop the shelling.
45- Crisis
When the supply lines to the camp are cut, Radar exercises his authority as the camp's housing officer by doubling people up to save fuel. In their own desperate attempts to stay warm, everybody starts burning everything in sight.
46-George
A private tells Hawkeye: "Two guys got beaten up in my outfit. One colored, the other homosexual. As you can see, Doc, I'm not colored." Frank, who apparently is homophobic on top of everything else, tries to get the soldier dishonorably discharged for his confession.
47-Mail Call
Trapper becomes so depressed when a new batch of mail arrives that he seriously considers deserting. Meanwhile, Hawkeye dupes Frank into buying stocks in a fake company.
48-A Smattering of Intelligence
Mysterious Col. Flagg starts snooping around the 4077th, which attracts another war spy to the camp. Upset by the Spy vs. Spy intrigue overtaking the compound, Hawkeye and Trapper decide to trick them both into believing Burns is a traitor.
Factoid: Richard Hooker, the author who wrote the novel that formed the basis of the series, refused to watch the TV series because he believed it was too liberal.
