William Christopher
A direct descendent of Paul Revere, William Christopher was destined for his own fame. He attended Wesleyan University where he majored in drama. Christopher made his Broadway debut in Beyond the Fringe. He soon left the New York for Hollywood and landed work in several well-known series including Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., That Girl and Hogan's Heroes, where he had recurring roles. He also landed work in feature film, starring in: The Shakiest Gun in the West, The Fortune Cookie and With Six You Get Egg Roll, where he appears with M*A*S*H co-star Jamie Farr five years before the show. In 1972, he won what would become his best known role as Father Francis Mulcahy in the TV series M*A*S*H. On the show for the entire run, his character evolved from a shy priest trying to bring a sense of faith and spirituality during war to a respected friend and invaluable member of the 4077th. After the show ended he appeared in the short-lived spin-off series After M*A*S*H and has appeared in other television series including Murder She Wrote, Mad About You and Diagnosis Murder.
