Karen
Grassle was born on February 25, 1942 in Berkeley, California.
As a 1964 graduate of the University of California at Berkeley,
Grassle primed herself for a career in acting by training at
the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. After a few bit
parts on stage and television, she gave the audition of a lifetime
and won the role of the nurturing and loving wife and mother,
Caroline Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie. From
the series debut in 1974 until the end in 1983, Grassle played
a big role in keeping viewing audiences glued to their television
sets year after year. She, like many of her Prairie co-stars,
was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers of the
National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. When the hit show
ended, Grassle turned her attention in a different direction.
Dedicated to the rights of women, she successfully wrote and
co-starred in the television mini-series Battered(1978)
that focused on domestic violence. With the exception of few
television appearances, Grassle is out of the Hollywood spotlight.
