Joe Colter, new to Walnut Grove, convinces the local farmers to switch their crops from wheat to corn. On his way back from Minneapolis with the corn seed, Joe is in an accident. The farmers in Walnut Grove become suspicious and they take their frustrations out on Joe's pregnant wife.

Young Johnny Johnson gets his head filled with adventure by Mr. Edwards and, after a fight with his father, decides to set out to see the world. Mr. Edwards does everything he can to change Johnnys mind, including setting up a series of cons and scams.
