Nina Van Horn is Blush magazine's fashion editor. Like some of her other co-workers, she has ulterior motives. Unlike her fellow co-workers, her motives have little or nothing to do with her status at the magazine. At one time, she asks Jack about his magician assistant: "He comes in late, he accomplishes nothing, takes long lunches. Be straight with me Jack. Are you grooming him for my position?"
Nina's sporting life is a cocktail of, well, cocktails, and vanity that is off the charts. She is driven by the desire to fit into fabulous clothes and shoes. In one episode, she wonders aloud if it's worth cutting off a toe to fit into a beautiful pair of shoes. Ostensibly, this off-the-charts ego comes from her days as a former model. Her computer's screen saver features nude photos of herself. Nina has a string of handsome assistants with whom she has her way.
In the 1970s and 80s Nina had been a top model and partied hard with New York's "in"' crowd. She married Robert Evans for a month and was responsible for the closing of Studio 54, a popular nightclub. Nicknamed the "Gothcha Girl," Nina graced the covers of Vogue, Mademoiselle and Redbook magazines as well as the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. She was once British supermodel Twiggy's roommate.
Before becoming a top model, Nina was adopted as a child by the Noddleman's who owned a farm in Kansas. They named her Claire after the family's missing cat. On the farm, the then Claire, calmed the horses. As Nina Van Horn, she takes pride in this skill and calls herself a "Horse Calmer-Downer." She gets to test her skills on Jack's race horse, Tax Dodge.
Contrary to what one might predict, Nina does get acknowledged as a prominent editor in the business and wins a Femmy for her work.
Nina's greatest fear in life is losing her looks. But nothing brightens Nina's day like hearing about the failure of others.
