51-
Bentley’s Problem Never listen
to George Jefferson for advice. Bentley is afraid of a bully in his garage. George’s
counsel lands Bentley in jail. The incident impedes Louise’s plans to go on a
trip to San Francisco.
52-
Jefferson Airplane Another
instance of trying to get George the workaholic to relax. This time, much to
Louise’s chagrin, he takes up flying lessons. Eventually, so does she. Mork’s
father-in-law, Conrad Janis, guest stars.
53-
George’s Guilt After a
childhood buddy dies, George feels guilty for not keeping in touch with the old
gang. So he organizes a reunion.
54- A Case
of Black & White George’s
latest business deal is with an interracial couple. He invites them to dinner
and uncharacteristically asks the Willises to join. When Tom and Helen get wind
of the plan -- and get offended -- they leave before the other couple arrives. Who
does George get to fill in for Tom and Helen? Ralph the doorman and Florence.
55- Louise
vs. Jenny Louise gets a
taste of her own medicine when Jenny and she battle over taking care of an
ailing Lionel. The mother of all mothers-in-law, Mother Jefferson, also makes an
appearance.
56- The
Marriage Counselors If it’s good
for the Willises, it’s good for the Jeffersons. That’s what Louise thinks about
the marriage counselor who has been helping Tom and Helen. This episode was
later spoofed on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air with Sherman Hemsley and
Isabel Sanford repeating their famous roles.
57-
Louise’s Friend Marla Gibbs’s
227 husband, Hal Williams, guest stars as a man who befriends Louise in
a French class, much to George’s dismay.
58- The
Old Flame Mother
Jefferson stirs up trouble when she invites George’s first girlfriend to the
house for dinner.
59-
Jenny’s Opportunity It’s a battle
of the sexes when Jenny is offered a scholarship to Oxford. After Lionel’s
company won’t transfer him abroad and he wants her to stay stateside, the line
in the sand is drawn between the Willis/Jefferson men and their wives.
60- George
the Philanthropist George’s
wallet is in the right place, if not his heart: his sudden generosity to a
Harlem youth center is merely an attempt to beat out a competitor for the Black
Businessman’s Award.
61-
Louise’s Physical It’s Louise’s
birthday, but she is upset upon learning from her doctor that she will live to
be 100. Feeling like her life is not fulfilling, she puts a damper on the
surprise party George and the rest have planned.
Season
Four
62- The
Grand Opening (Part One) In the
hour-long season four opener, George plans a party for the opening of a new
office. When he brags to folks at Charlie’s about his success, two thugs
overhear and break into the apartment, with the intent to kidnap Louise.
63- The
Grand Opening (Part Two) The
kidnappers call George demanding a $100,000 ransom for the kidnapping of his
wife. Little do they know that they have kidnapped Florence.
64- Once a
Friend Eddie, one of
George’s navy buddies, wants to meet up with him. But Eddie’s dropped one of
the d’s and is now Edie. George soon discovers that the “d is not the only
thing Eddie got rid of.”
65-
George’s Help Ernest Harden
Jr. makes his first series appearance as Marcus Garvey Henderson, George’s
young assistant. They get off to a rocky start. After George jumps at the
chance of getting the street kid to work for him at half price, he discovers a
suede jacket is missing.
66-
George’s Legacy Afraid of dying,
George wants to leave behind a legacy: A bust. Of himself. On display.
Seriously, he hires a sculptor.
67- Good
News, Bad News Louise and
Helen are pitted against each other when Helen is chosen for a job Louise wants
at the Help Center.
68- The Visitors
Florence’s
bickering parents pay the Jefferson household an unexpected and unnerving
visit. Sleep deprivation ensues.
69- The
Camp-Out George takes
Marcus on a camping trip in order to avoid his mother. They contend with the
elements while the women back home land Stevie Wonder tickets.
70- The
Last Leaf Louise loses
her wedding corsage. With his wife superstitious that her marriage is over,
George does everything he can to prove otherwise. Zara Cully makes her final
appearance on the show.
71-
Louise’s New Interest Volunteering
at a museum, Louise shows an affinity for archaeology and an attractive single
archaeologist. When he plans an expedition -- with Louise as his only travel
companion -- she hides the fact from George.
72- The
Costume Party Once again,
it’s the classic George Jefferson set up: he stubbornly refuses to do
something. But when he realizes doing it might lead to an opportunity, he does
it at any cost. The something: Attending a costume ball hosted by the
Interracial Awareness Association. The opportunity: meeting a costume
factory-owner who can give him more business. The any cost: well … a grape
juice stain on a Superman costume is involved.
73-
Florence Gets Lucky George needs
Florence to do what she does best: insult him. He wants her to work her magic
in front of a potential big customer who loves her sharp tongue. It goes so far
as George taking Florence with him on a business trip.
74- George
Needs Help Louise, per
usual, wants George at home more. She makes her workaholic husband hire a
general manager, but George is too picky with the application pool. Teddy
Brown, Good Times’s Sweet Daddy Williams, plays George’s eventual
choice.
75- The
Jefferson Curve The Jefferson
Curve is a bend in the truth. Like Marcus sweet-talking a girl and telling her
he’s Lionel. The Jefferson Curve leads to George and Louise believing Lionel is
having an affair.
