Jenny Willis is bright and beautiful, but she has some emotional baggage about being the daughter of a white father and a black mother. She has experienced prejudice and injustice, and sometimes resents her brother, who appears white. Still, she is playful and smart and knows how to stand up for herself in the three-ring circus that accompanies the Jefferson and Willis families. She marries Lionel, has a daughter with him, and pursues a career as a fashion designer.
