North Carolina native Berlinda Tolbert has been steadily working on television since 1974, when she made her debut guest-starring on That’s My Mama. The gamut of shows she has appeared on over the following decades spans from 1970s chestnuts such as The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Police Woman, Sanford and Son, The Streets of San Francisco, and S.W.A.T. to more recent fare such as Six Feet Under, ER, Half & Half, Home Improvement, and 7th Heaven. After performing on Broadway in 1974, she landed her most famous and regular role as Lionel Jefferson's girlfriend-then-wife, Jenny Willis, on The Jeffersons. She re-appeared with her The Jeffersons co-stars on 227 and Living in TV Land. She was also on Battle of the Network Stars and played Gary Coleman’s mother in After Diff’rent Strokes: When the Laughter Stopped, a 2000 television film. Her big-screen credits include Harlem Nights and Patriot Games.
