The first (and third) actor to play Lionel Jefferson on the groundbreaking The Jeffersons, Mike Evans also broke ground as the co-creator of another All in the Family spin-off, Good Times.
He was still in acting school when he landed the part of Lionel on All In The Family in 1971. He portrayed Lionel Jefferson on the first season of The Jeffersons, but left to work on Good Times. He returned in 1979. He also made numerous appearances on Match Game in the early 1970s and, like his television mother, Isabel Sanford, Evans acted in a segment of Love, American Style. He sang the song El Condor Pasa in the TV movie The Voyage of Yes, and was in the famous miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man. He made his last television appearance in a 2000 episode of Walker, Texas Ranger, and later invested in real estate in Southern California's Inland Empire. Evans passed away on December 14, 2006 at his mother's home in Twentynine Palms, California.
