I Dream of Jeannie

Bill Daily

Major Healy

Bill Daily was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 30, 1928. The man who played neurotic Roger Healey on I Dream of Jeannie and clinging airline navigator Howard Borden on The Bob Newhart Show had little TV experience before Jeannie came along in 1965. Prior to that, Daily had made appearances on The Mike Douglas Show and a 1964 episode of Bewitched.

On The Bob Newhart Show, Daily provided a manic contrast to Newhart's staid, buttoned-down character where he stayed until 1978. It would be a few years before Daily worked again as a regular. Instead, he made numerous guest appearances, including a role in a 1979 episode of CHiPs. Daily's '80s roles were mostly in short-lived series. He also appeared in 1985's I Dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later. He played the role of Grandpa in 2009’s Harroween.

Character Bio

Roger Healy is Tony's best friend and also works for NASA as an astronaut. Roger fancies himself a swinging bachelor and has dated many a general's niece. Though a tried and true commitmentphobe, he is almost bitten by the love bug and nearly married Jeannie's manipulative sister, Jeannie.

This third wheel is frequently caught in Jeannie's hundreds of spells and efforts to keep Tony from going on a date or from learning something she didn't want him to know. Roger has been blinked to the South Pole, into a poodle and even to the top of the Empire State Building, among other zany places and objects.

Though time and again he has tried to use Jeannie's magic for his own good, each time his best-laid plans fail, and he remains faithful sidekick and underpaid astronaut friend to Tony and Jeannie.
