Robert Walden

Robert Walden

Robert Walden was born in New York City on September 25, 1943 as Robert Wolkowitz. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York City College. Walden is well-known for playing Joe Rossi on Lou Grant, and has worked in both television and film. He is also a prolific stage actor. Walden has written for TV series such as The Twilight Zone and Whos the Boss, among other productions.

Walden received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1979, 1980 and 1981 for his performance on Lou Grant. He has played a variety of characters throughout his career, beginning in 1970 with his role in Bloody Mama, a gangster film directed by Roger Corman. He played a doctor in the TV series The Bold Ones and in the movies The Hospital and Blue Sunshine.

Later in his career, Walden took on historical roles, like Donald Segretti in All the Presidents Men and J. Robert Oppenheimer in Enola Gay: The Men, the Mission, the Atomic Bomb, a TV movie which aired in 1980. Walden also acted in the Brothers on Showtime from 1984 to 1989. As one of the first American sitcoms that featured openly gay characters, Brothers blazed the trail for dealing with homosexuality on TV.

Walden has also been very involved in live theatre. He has performed with a variety of companies, including the Pasadena Playhouse. Waldens role in its production of Mr. Rickey Calls A Meeting earned him a Dramalogue Award for Best Actor. Walden studied, taught and directed at The Beverly Hills Playhouse, and he won an L.A. Critics Circle Award and a Dramalogue Award for directing a production of Dylan, one of his first directing ventures. Walden currently teaches at The New School for Drama in New York City.

In June 2011 Walden appears alongside Fran Drescher and Rita Moreno in Happily Divorced, a new original sitcom on TV Land. He plays Glen, Dreschers TV father and Morenos husband.
