SHELDON LEONARD, CREATOR & EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
AARON RUBEN, PRODUCER | BOB ROSS, PRODUCER BOB SWEENEY, DIRECTOR | LEE PHILIPS, DIRECTOR | OTHER DIRECTORS JIM FRITZELL and EVERETT GREENBAUM | JIM FRITZELL and EVERETT GREENBAUM Everett Greenbaum was born in 1919 in Buffalo, New York. His father had hopes that Everett would go into the family tire business, but young Everett didn't like the smell of tires. Instead, Everett attended M.I.T. and followed his love of airplanes into a job at Bell Aircraft just before World War II. Soon, he was serving as a flight instructor all over the world. During that time, he wrote a one-act play for a writing contest and decided he was going to make his career as a writer. He used the G.I. bill to study writing in Paris, but returned to the U.S. after a year. Next he got a job as a radio disc jockey with his own live show. His first notable writing assignment came from William Morris on the sitcom Mr. Peepers. This is where he was paired with Jim Fritzell who was already a writer on the series. This started a partnership that would last for years. Jim Fritzell was born in 1920 in San Francisco, California. Unlike Greenbaum, Fritzell spent his time on worldly pleasures like poker, sports, drinking and smoking. These differences seemed to compliment each other's writing style. In addition to The Andy Griffith Show, Fritzell and Greenbaum collaborated on the feature film, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken among others. They also co-wrote 24 of the most memorable episodes of M*A*S*H* and other series such as Make Room for Daddy, The Odd Couple, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., and Sybil. |
