Good old reliable Eb, always there too, come to think of it, what is it that Eb does? Ostensibly the Douglas' farmhand, he lives in the barn loft where he cares for his pet turtle (and apparently keeps his innumerable collection of plaid coats.) Naive and unworldly as he may be, Eb manages to snooker a job doing apparently nothing out of Mr. Douglas (whom he occasionally calls "Dad", but never "Oliver".) Eb is a lanky, clumsy goofball, but he longs for wealth and sophistication (and a date.)
