Courteney Cox

Monica Geller

Courteney Cox has racked up an impressive career for a country girl! Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Courteney moved to Washington, D.C. to attend college before she decided to pursue acting and modeling full-time. From there, she played Bunny on the long-running soap As the World Turns, and her career took off from there.

Of course, most audiences know Courteney best as lovable, kooky Monica Geller on NBC’s smash hit sitcom Friends, about six pals who band together to navigate life and love in New York City. If you missed her work on Friends, you might have caught her star turn as reporter Gale Weathers in the Scream movies, or her down-and-dirty tabloid editor Lucy Spiller, her first major follow-up to Friends, on FX’s Dirt.

Before Friends, Courteney played a number of memorable roles: she was pulled out of the crowd to join Bruce Springsteen dancing onstage in his video for Dancing in the Dark; played Jerry’s girlfriend Meryl on Seinfeld; appeared on Murder, She Wrote; and starred opposite Jim Carrey (and quarterback Dan Marino!) in the blockbuster Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Most recently, Courteney worked with fellow Friends alumni Lisa Kudrow, on her Showtime series Web Therapy, and with Matthew Perry on his NBC project, Go On.

In addition to winning or being nominated for a Golden Globe, a SAG Award, and both Kid’s Choice and People’s Choice Awards, among others, Courteney has won two prestigious TVLand Awards: "Break Up That Was So Bad It Was Good," for her performance as Alex P. Keaton’s girlfriend on Family Ties, and Most Beautiful Wedding, for her nuptials with Matthew Perry on Friends.

These days, you can catch Courteney on TBS’s Cougar Town (where she’s also executive producer and occasional director!) as Jules Cobb, an eager divorcée, single mom, and ringleader of the Cul-de-sac Crew made up of her friends and neighbors.

And of course, you can also check in with Monica Geller on Friends on TVLand Wednesdays at 9PM/8C.

Character Bio

Monica Geller is a true-blue friend, and a notable neat freak. Her childhood best friend and roommate, Rachel, might even call her neurotic. For example: after vacuuming, she even vacuums the vacuum cleaner! Overweight through her college years, now Monica sublimates her love of food in her work as a professional chef. And off the clock, she’s still the hostess with the most-est, always making sure her friends are watered and fed at her Greenwich Village apartment. She loves games, from football to foosball, and she’s always up for some friendly competition, especially with her older brother, Ross. A stickler for the rules, Monica would never cheat to win, but she will do just about anything else!
