A man of many talents, Lorne Greene first made his mark in show
biz as "The Voice of Canada" using his deep, soothing voice
to broadcast news of World War Two. After switching his focus
to acting, Greene began garnering roles in TV and movies, many
in Westerns. A guest spot on Wagon Train helped him land
the plumb role of Ben Cartwright, which catapulted him to fame.
While starring on Bonanza, Lorne Green recorded seven
LPs of music for RCA Records, and climbed all the way to the
top of the charts with his number one hit "Ringo" in the fall
of 1964. The B-Side of the single had a lyrical version of
the Bonanza theme song.
Green went on to several other TV roles including host of
Lorne Greene's New Wilderness and the unforgettable
Captain Adama on Battlestar Galactica. His commercials
for Alpo dog food are also legendary. Greene passed away on
September 11, 1987.
