Answering phones, billing patients and making coffee at the reception
desk on The Bob Newhart Show is Carol Kester. Carol has a life nearly as
colorful as her bright red hair. A "former fattie," she has to have a tattoo
removed at one point because her weight loss has left her beautiful butterfly a
shadow of its former self. Carol is quick-witted, fiery and insolent, but has a
heart of gold. Early in the series Carol spends most days in the office and most
nights as the victim of Emily Hartley's ill-fated matchmaking efforts. One of
Carol's more successful (and surprising) love connections is with Bob's star
patient, Elliot Carlin. In later seasons, Carol meets Larry Bondurant, a travel
agent and avid amateur photographer whom she marries.
