The Bob Newhart Show

Bill Daily

Howard Borden

Bill Daily was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 30, 1928. The man who played neurotic Roger Healey on I Dream of Jeannie and clinging airline navigator Howard Borden on The Bob Newhart Show had little TV experience before Jeannie came along in 1965. Prior to that, Daily had made appearances on The Mike Douglas Show and a 1964 episode of Bewitched.

On The Bob Newhart Show, Daily provided a manic contrast to Newhart's staid, buttoned-down character where he stayed until 1978. It would be a few years before Daily worked again as a regular. Instead, he made numerous guest appearances, including a role in a 1979 episode of CHiPs. Daily's '80s roles were mostly in short-lived series. He also appeared in 1985's I Dream of Jeannie: 15 Years Later. He played the role of Grandpa in 2009’s Harroween.

Character Bio

Everyone's favorite neighbor/pest is Howard Mark Borden, who is an airplane navigator for a commercial carrier – that is, until the airline replaces him with a computer and he goes to fly for a delivery service. Howard is divorced (from Lois) and the father of Howard, Jr. known as Howie. Howard's family also includes his sister Debbie, brother Gordon Borden the game warden, and as quoted by Emily Hartley, another brother dubbed "Norman Borden, the Mormon doorman." Howard is a loveable mooch and enjoys many a free meal at Bob and Emily's place.
