Otis Campbell

Otis Campbell
Although he's probably best remembered as town drunk Otis Campbell on The Andy Griffith Show, comic actor Hal Smith's resume is as long and varied as any in Hollywood. Born in 1906, Hal played an elf onstage at age six, and went on to appear in dozens of classic TV shows, including Have Gun Will Travel, Perry Mason, Petticoat Junction, The Addams Family, Green Acres, The Odd Couple, The Brady Bunch, and The Dukes of Hazzard,. Smith also had parts in the animated programs Scooby-Doo, The Smurfs, and Beauty and the Beast, among countless others. Smith died of heart failure in January 1994.

Character Bio

You can't help but smile when Otis, the town drunk, stumbles into the courthouse with a "snoot-ful". He's notorious for checking himself in and out of jail on an as-needed basis.
