Welcome to my blog. I'm excited to have the opportunity to put "pen to paper" and to give you the exclusive, inside scoop on what I saw, thought, and experienced on each episode of High School Reunion, which premieres on TV Land March 5th. I haven't seen any of the episodes yet myself so I'll be riding this rollercoaster with you for the first time! This is my chance to express to you what it was like to be on a reality show, because well, if I were a viewer and if I were reading this, I'd want to know. But first, I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself.
You may already know that on the show I'm being called "The Geek". Guilty as charged. I have to admit I was definitely a "geek" in high school. I was a sensitive kid - I really never had a good comeback for insults that came my way. I listened to a lot of alternative music (not so much Top 40), I rode a moped (which back then was considered geeky), I loved playing computer and video games or just programming, and I played Dungeons and Dragons with friends on the weekends. I identified with people in school who really had a hard time fitting in. I have even been to a (gasp!) Star Trek convention! I was outgoing at first, but between really bad experiences with the cliques in high school and being picked on a lot, I began to pull away from everyone except my close friends - I just didn't enjoy high school very much.
Contrasting those years with today is interesting for me because I'm much more confident in myself now than I was back in high school. I joined the Marine Corps right out of high school -I'd always wanted to do it (plus I had anger issues.go figure).
I went to college and really worked hard to make up for lost time. Lots of partying and many mistakes made - but very few painful memories compared to high school. High school had affected me in a profound way in that I'd decided I would be different and be proud of it. Somewhere along the way I grew up after high school, started a career in the computer industry and met my wife in my late 20's. Today I'm happily married with 3 kids, and life is good. I'm still a geek, but I'm not the person I was in high school. However, high school definitely went a long way toward shaping who I am today, as I think it does to all of us.
So on to the show! Let's talk a little.
