What It is

A well-placed, much-deserved homage to Ralph Kramden: bus driver, Racoon Lodge treasurer, dreamer… and unlikely confidante to unstable commuters who enjoy carrying on a conversation with a bronze statue on the street. Tragically, public toilet for Big Apple pigeons and their brethren.

Why you should visit

Going to the moon? This Ralph can't help you. But he can help direct you to the Northeast corridor. And besides, he's free to look at! The Port Authority Bus Terminal serves as a terminus and departure point for both commuter bus routes as well as long-distance intercity routes. The terminal is the biggest bus station in the United States and the busiest in the world in terms of sheer volume.

Did you know
  • Ralph's daily bus run (Bus No. 2969 & No. 247) took him along Madison Avenue in Manhattan.
  • The same lunchbox and the ubiquitous bus driver's uniform are central elements on the 1,000-pound bronze replica of the fictional Manhattanite.
  • Port Authority Bus Station serves 7,200 buses and about 200,000 people on an average weekday. Over 3 billion passengers have used the building since it began operation in 1950.
