Aside from free "therapy," the 19-acre Gateway Park was developed to enhance enjoyment of the city's lakefront area. A spectacular state-of-the-art fountain located just west of the pier's entrance provides interactive fun with computerized jet streams of varying heights and designs.

• Bob Newhart's full name is George Robert Newhart
• On Episode 81 of The Bob Newhart Show, during which Bob gets ambushed by an aggressive interviewer on a TV talk show, is often used as a training video on how to handle the media.
• In the '50s, Newhart was an accountant who began writing comedy out of boredom. His first success was on radio and then records before jumping genres to TV and movies.
• Bob’s LP The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart was No. 1 on the LP charts in 1960, selling over half a million copies and winning the Album of the Year Grammy for Best New Artist.
• The initial pilot for The Bob Newhart Show revolved around Bob and Emily’s unsuccessful attempt to conceive a child. The episode was held back after Bob’s insistence that he didn’t want to do a series about kids. It aired in a later episode (with a noticeably different cast, including future Oscar-winner Louise Lasser -- though there was never any other mention of Bob and Emily having kids.
• When it was unveiled the statue was located outside 430 N. Michigan Ave., which was featured in the show’s opening credits as Hartley’s office.
